My So Called Life

I am terribly angry at the moment. My student life has deteriorated to the point I want to strangle my principals for being uptight assholes.
I would also like to say that Vander Ark guy is a real dumb asshole. If he is so fucking smart, why not just write your own book? Jeez, don't try to make fandom into salable encyclopedias. If you want to sell your work, you might as well analyze the crap out of her books and hope someone will notice your obvious allusions. And really, just get a life. Because of you, I have to post a rant about why I really think you are dumbass. Just ruin my day, why don't you.

I'm not happy at all. I just found out that my school is on the brink of overpopulation self destruction and that the math classes I want are full. Plus I may not be able to go to film school depending on whether my classes are considered "good" enough.
So this life I have, isn't it angsty? Don't you just wanna wear black again and cut your wrists up? No, I don't. I hate angst so I'm trying to make the best of it.

Arch Enemies of Timothy Leary

I haven't post anything in weeks, so now I'm using that fact to post something new. What have I done in weeks that is interesting? I got time to venture up North to play soccer and eat disgusting food at a chain Mexican restaurant which is not Taco Bell or Chipotle. I also shared a car with two overly obnoxious music listeners and one reckless driver. Aside from that, there is possibly nothing newer. Except maybe the new discovery of Michel Gondry!
Michel Gondry. Wow. What a dude. I've seen Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind and I've wanted to watch the Science of Sleep for Ages. Now with Be Kind, Rewind (I've got the wicked screensaver), Michel Gondry is now on my radar, even though he should have been there since 2004. And what took me so long? Well, many superhero movies came out, so I had to fall in love with Bryan Singer's works, well until Superman Returns and Valkyrie sorta both fail, so then the three amigos, meaning Alfonso Cuaron, Guillermo del Toro, and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu just had to appear. And those three are wonderful, but with Michel Gondry, the four are wonderful! I recently watched Gondry solve a Rubik's cube with his feet and then his nose and then Jack Black with 10 Rubik's Cubes. Then I saw the sweded trailer of Be Kind Rewind. I have to say, I like the sweded version better than the original version. Sorry Jack and Mos Def, but you guys can't beat Michel Gondry.
I also realized how many new projects I have to do. First off, I have to doodle. And it's for an icon but I get to choose whatever subject I want to doodle. So I landed of Hitchcock. Yes, the brilliant Alfred Hitchcock. Then, I also I have to write a draft. That I have to turn in by Friday. Sweet. Also, I may have to write a 10 minute script for a shortie. My main problem with shorts is how to keep them simple and short. In order to do that, I decided to go with possibly the most playful and innocent creatures in the world- children. And why children? Because not long ago I was one and I still remember what it was like to be naive, innocent, and cruel. Plus the long list of scatological jokes. On top of that, is a short film video I have to make. Have to because I said so. I'm probably going to make a music video for Unit 4 +2's Concrete and Clay because one, it's a great song, two, the song is too darn cute, and three, the official music video is crap, not that mine will be any better.
Also, I gave up on the Fountainhead. I lost it in some drawer and I have not yet wanted to read it. I still have some chapters left, but I truly and utterly hate it. Hate is a powerful word, and I mean it when I say I hate that book. Ayn Rand's dialogue makes me fall asleep and wonder if her group of friends were that formal. Probably not. But maybe they are.

And She Will Kiss the Clouds

Living in a very nice neighborhood puts a dampener on any whiner or complainer. So, myself living in a quite affluent place find it hard to relate to issues that others find so normal within their lives. After reading a nice "inspirational" article about following dreams, and hmm, a novel about an uncomprimising soul, well I figured I might as well write something to voice my opinions and to well, just for the heck of it. Plus, there is some lame script thing, but there are no specifications of how long it has to be. I am aiming that this post will cover at least 30 minutes of that script and inspire more scripts.

So...

Living a life without worries but filled with any possibility imaginiable is a life many covet. For many people living in a partiular area, this is what is defined as normal. Young children live with so much vitality and love. This is prevalent everywhere. However, when living amongst these "normal" people, these young children bloom into worry free teenagers. Teenagers are not worry free totally, still having to endure stress from school and studies. However the teens here have only that to basically worry about. The rest just does not exist. When these teens grow up, they finally become adults. Either these adults become shocked, thrown into an unknown world that they thought never existed before, or they adjust comfortably, already knowing so much that they have found a decent job. Either way, these young people are thrown into a different place, almost a different world. The comforts of home have lulled them into a false sense of security which is immediately taken away when the insurances decide to stop covering them, as a result of no longer being a "kid".

... also, as a note, something entirely unrelated, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split in to two films.

Parables of Monsters

I am in the mood today to discuss about monsters. I really like monsters. Not the everyday monsters we see walking the dogs or in the store, but the monsters which become an irrational fear. Take for instance a child eating giant with spikes covering his entire body. Or a half woman half snake creature which kills souls, not bodies.

What is a monster? A phantom which haunts and plagues the minds of children? A demon which sulks the shadows? Or rather a small innocuous-looking thing that can actually be vicious? A monster is not imaginary nor out of this world. A monster is an identity that people carry. The next door neighbor may in fact be
a monster. Children hide from monsters, however adults can too. And sometimes
the monster may never be unstoppable and others may not know a monster does
exist. It can be the fatal cut which infects your body and allows you your
torment and woe. A monster can also be a beautiful creature which despite
its deformities, a flawed and imperfect creation. A monster can be born with
a clean slate and naturally good tendencies, or with selfish ones.

Because it's monster time, I would suggest the following: Frankenstein, The Spirit of the Beehive, The Devil's Backbone, Monster, Where the Wild Things Are, and of course, the one with the fairy-chomping, eye-in-hands pale man, uh, Pan's Labyrinth.

The Crippling Ego

I have been reading Ayn Rand's The Fountainhead for a few weeks now. So far, it's been a completely interesting and engaging read. The characters are exceptional albeit sometimes symbols rather than people. The book however got me questioning the ideals of the human ego and individualism. Ayn Rand's quote that man's ego is the fountainhead of human progress pretty much sums up the book and does sound nice on paper. Otherwise if you dare say that aloud and claim it as your basic code of life, well then, you'd be an arrogant dickhead.

The thing about man's ego and his pride is that, well how far can it stretch before you can break it. Observing that has always been an interesting hobby though I have neglected it for a bit too long. Sometimes it is nice to relax and observe others, however as of late I am not observing others, rather more often than not berating group members for not contributing their share into a project. I am not a very angry or irritable person, actually I find that if everyone works hard that there will be some harmony within a group. I truly want people who love their work. Well maybe not love it, but passionate about it. That way if they yell at me that it's usually about some creative idea rather than telling me about how unfair I am. Listen people, listen up! Wouldn't it be great if everyone was a Howard Roark and a Henry Cameron (well before he became a drunk)?

Now that I am done about talking about the breakable human ego, I would like to share some cupcake photos, because they are beautiful. However, they remind me of the feast and the Pale Man.

They are similiar in how you can't eat it so it's torture. And remember how Ofelia eats two grapes and almost suffers the wrath of the Pale Man? Well, lick the computer screen and get some electric charge or some weird diarrhea from the paper.

In The Mood For Cupcakes

Today I saw the Martha Stewart Show and there was this lady who had a passion for cupcakes and created a store. Add to that program another cupcake siting! Okay so on the weekend I saw this dude on Food Network create cupcakes. Red Velvet, Strawberry, and Chocolate. They all looked good. So basically I am in the mood for cupcakes. Who wouldn't want to eat this great mini cake. It's better than a cake because you can try different types of cakes.
So, because I feel in the mood for them, I want delight the senses and possibly taunt people with these nice photos.

Late Night Cravings for Food, Movies, and Marine Biology

So right now I have a great and utter impulse for food, movies and marine biology. I was thinking of creating a website for a bit to display the utter 'good life' with good food, music, and movies, but I opted not to. I figured I will probably abandon the project within about a week of creating it. So instead I decided to finally blog something on this blog.
Food: one of the many things I live for. Though food is the reason why I am still alive, I do find it great to live for food- be a food critic and that. As of right now I have a thing for sushi. Wow, what an insightful report about food, talking about a food topic most people talk about yet somehow manage to get wrong. Well sushi actually means vinegared rice, but colloquially is now the raw fish that most people eat. I went to Japan a few years ago, back in 2005, and enjoyed everything about it. Basically I went restaurant hunting, but every restaurant impressed me with their great food and service. The fish is so fresh and the rice is perfect. I find myself craving for this delectable dish, even though I ate just finished a great slice of cake.
Movies. I absolutely adore them. Except really bad ones, like movies do not deserve to be made. Mostly those modern National Lampoon movies. There used to be funny ones, but now they are mostly old and recycled sex comedies. I just saw the trailer for In Bruges for the umpteenth time and I am still in love with it. My favorite line from it is "If I had grown up on a farm and was retarded, Bruges might impress me, but I didn't, so it doesn't." It is very insensitive yet a very brutally honest opinion, which many people from my area lack. That's why back stabbing and rumors propagate so quickly here. Besides In Bruges, I also saw the trailer for Vantage Point which seems pretty interesting. Though at first I wasn't that interested, mainly because of Dennis Quaid, when I finally saw the trailer before watching Sweeney Todd in theaters, it actually looked interesting. Though I truly did not like Matthew Fox. Despite that minor setback, Vantage Point looks interesting, plus the plot outline does include Rashomon.
Marine biology is something I recently got interested in. I went to Monterey a few weeks back and brought my camera along. I took pictures, albeit in my opinion bad ones, of sea life, including mussels and star fishes and the moss around the rocks. It seems pretty interesting and I do enjoy the sun and water.
